Big Game Hunting Print E-mail

FlyFish and Field NZ Ltd can arrange a multitude of hunting experiences.  Just imagine relaxing by a roaring fire in a guest lodge tucked away in the wilderness and reminiscing over the days hunt while washing back the thick aromatic taste of a game dinner with an award winning rustic red.  Imagine being able to awake the next day, hop into your private chopper and admire the breath taking views of the Southern Alps below as you fly to your next hunting spot or remote mountain stream because you wish to try your hand at a spot of wilderness fly fishing for that trophy brown.  With FlyFish and Field we can turn these dreams into possibilities!

New Zealand consists of two main islands: The North Island has a ‘spine’ of mountain ranges running through the middle, with gentle rolling farmland on both sides. The central North Island is dominated by the Volcanic Plateau, an active volcanic and thermal area.  The massive Southern Alps form the backbone of the South Island. To the east of the Southern Alps are the rolling farmlands of Otago and Southland, and the vast, flat Canterbury Plains.

Within these diverse natural settings Big game animals are now well established and are available throughout New Zealand.  Because the land mass is so diverse the climate can be interchangeable and unpredictable.  Because of this Big game are dependent upon their early instinctive weather forecasting abilities and the study of this behaviour enables a good hunting guide to help determine where there are better hunting prospects.  With FlyFish and Field we can ensure that you are placed in the hands of the very best guides to ensure both an enjoyable, successful and most importantly a safe hunting experience.

While Big game hunting can be experienced twelve months of the year, weather conditions can determine the accessibility of certain species. There are 12 species of Big game available to the hunter in New Zealand: Wapiti, Red Deer, Sika Deer,Rusa Deer, Sambar Deer, Whitetail Deer, Fallow Deer, Himalayan Thar, Austrian Chamois, South Pacific Goat, wild pig and wild bulls.
