New Zealand is home to a large array of flora and fauna and encounters with rare and unusual wildlife are a special part of the New Zealand holiday experience. For millions of years New Zealand has been isolated and during this time a multitude of unique birds, animals and plants developed here. Because there were no ground based enemies for ancient birds, many evolved to become the flightless birds we know today. With our many kilometres of coastline, numerous off shore islands and nutrient rich waters, New Zealand is also home to a multitude of marine mammals that will truly amaze you.
From a night walk through one of our native Kauri forests to view our national icon, the Kiwi, to donning a wetsuit and immersing yourself in the waters off the Kaikoura coast to swim with the fur seals, FlyFish and Field can organise knowledgeable and experienced guides to allow you a glimpse of our most rare and sometimes endangered species in their natural environments.
There are a multitude of wildlife encounters, a few of which I mention below, that will allow your heart strings to be tugged as you get up close and personal with these amazing creatures.
