The Flyfish and Field Team:

Ray and Robby have traveled extensively throughout New Zealand.  They have fished many rivers, hunted in the hills and hiked many of New Zealand’s renowned walking tracks that climb their way from the valley floors through thick native bush to the majestic heights of the mountain tops above. 

They are both 3rd generation New Zealanders born and educated in Auckland.  While their children were growing up they were fortunate to own a 38 foot sailing boat and would spend a good percentage of their summer months sailing up the coast from Auckland to the Bay of Islands.  During this time they explored the numerous golden sandy bays, fished the clear blue waters and in time taught their boys how to free dive for crayfish which made an excellent entrée while the fish cooked on the barbeque. There was never a shortage of excellent New Zealand wines that complimented this harvest from the sea.

During the winter months Ray can be found roaming the back country blocks chasing that ever elusive pheasant, or huddled in a blind calling to the cunning mallard in the hope that he will be able to whip up yet another mouth watering roast game dinner for friends and family. 

Matt was also born and educated in Auckland.  He has been raised a keen hunter, fisherman, free diver and environmentalist.  Also a very keen sportsman he has represented New Zealand at Underwater Hockey for the past ten years and was part of the world championship team that made history in 2004 when NZ became world champions for the very first time.  After spending his youth traveling around the world Matt is now settled in New Zealand and is excited to be able to share his passion and knowledge of the outdoors while planning your trip down under.
